On August 6, 2013, the city approved the construction of the first phase of the $1.2 billion Airborne Falls Park and Recreation Center, and project leaders promised that it would be the most exciting recreation and entertainment facility built in the region in 50 years. The foundation stone was laid on Tuesday, August 7, 2014, at the 1,000-acre site at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Interstate 35 in Fluggerville, Texas. The farmers of La Rue Norton, who own the land, as well as Texas State Fairgrounds and other local businesses, set aside a field and sold the land to workers for $50. They are preparing for a big spectacle as they prepare for the opening weekend.
